Sports Trivia: Who had the first
home run of the 1994 Baseball season?
Answer Ray Lankford of the St. Louis
Cardinals led off with a home run
against Cincinatti Red Jose Rijo Opening
Night.
That home run was the first of many
in a season in which events off the field
would overshadow the impressive offensive
numbers of many players on the
field.
As of noon on August 12th the Major
League Baseball Players Association
was on strike. To put it in simpler
terms: no Triple Crowns for Thomas,
no 61 plus dingers for Williams, no RBIs

To understand the strike one must
realize all the major problems being debated
deal with money. The players
want more, while the owners claim they
are losing too much. Jerry Reinsdorf,
the owner of the Chicago White Sox and
the Chicago Bulls, says he is losing money.
I find this hard to believe. His team
is in the third largest market and the
White Sox are leading their division.
How are they losing Money? Correct
me if Fm wrong, but won't every owner
lose money if their teams are not playing?
The players want their minimum
salary raised to $200,000. Considering
the fact these people are playing a
GAME and already make more money
than most people will ever have, raising
their minimum salaries seems a little
ridiculous. Two word solution: Salary
Cap.
