The last four years of USC football
have seen the Gamecocks join the
SEC but unable to reach postseason
play.
The Gamecocks were led to a 6-5
record in 1990 by quarterback Bobby
Fuller. Fuller Finished his career
at Carolina in 1991, third on the alltime
passing list with 4,896 yards.
The 1991 season saw USC win only
three games, losing six and tying
two. The Gamecocks tied Duke 2424
in the first game of the season.
The first win for Carolina in 1991 was
against Virginia Tech on Sept. 21.
USC put 28 points on the board
against the Hoakies. Carolina had its
best game in 1991 against East Tennessee
State on October 5. USC

Coach Sparky Woods' third season
showed little hope for the stiff competition
the Gamecocks would be
facing in the SEC. As the 1992 season
got under way, things went from bad
to worse for the Gamecocks.
Carolina lost its first five games of
the 1-992 campaign. Coach Woods
faced criticism from players and fans
during this stretch. The players
staged a revolt, wanting Sparky to resign.
Woods remained on the job,
changed his starting quarterback and
had the Gamecocks winning.
Freshman Steve Taneyhill brought
excitement back to Columbia and

Kentucky came to Columbia for a
ursday night contest on ESPN the
ict week. The Gamecocks took a
i point lead into the fourth quar,
but could not hold off a late
irge by the Wildcats and lost 21.
Losing big leads in the fourth
irter was a disappointing trend in
?3 that end up costing the Game:ks
any chance of bowl play.
ISC finished the season with a 4-7
:ord which resulted in the dis
ssal of Sparky Woods. McGee was

Brad Scott to take over the
