USC, one of the oldest state universities in country, went through many changes before en ing as an institution dedicated to providing 1 liberal arts and professional educations to the pie of South Carolina. After World War II, the campus expanded 1 physically and academically. In the 196C statewide network of smaller campuses was ir duced. The Engineering Center, opened in the fa 1987, and the Koger Center, opened in 1989, the two most recent additions. A new music scl is being built. USC now boasts 17 academic units, including School of Law and the School of Medicine. The versity is looking forward to its 200th anniver in 2001 and hopes to commemorate it by inst ing parts of the Master Plan, a blueprint for campus in the 21st century.
