Ward, Kiper, i
NFL scouts Ward-ed off
Now, I don't believe Charlie Ward is going i
a great NFL quarterback either, but I absolutely
not believe the Heisman trophy winner did nc
drafted in seven rounds of picks.
You mean to tell me there are 222 players ii
U.S. that are better athletes than Ward? I mean,
can someone not take a chance? I think Ward c
play any of about five positions in the NFL: d
sive back, wide receiver, kick returner...
How in the world can Gino Torretta, the ^
Heisman trophy winner in the history of the a\
get drafted and Charlie Ward not?!?!

Now, as much as I agree with Kiper that the
are perennial draft idiots, I, too, would like to 1
exactly where Kiper came from.
My first recollection of Kiper is on ESPN's
coverage sometime in the early-to-mid '80s. I
to figure out exactly who this guy with the fi
hair was and why people gave a damn wha
thought.
I've been watching ESPN's draft coverag
probably over 10 years, and I still can't figun
why this guy's opinion matters more than an
else's.
But, Kiper was right. The Colts missed bi

do I mean? I mean the A.L. West.
The California Angels are leading through Tuesday
afternoon. That's not odd, you say? They have
an 8-12 record.
The Texas Rangers are 5-11. Yeah, I know?pme
teams get off to slow starts, and they'll proBably
come around. They don't have far to come. They're
only two games back of the Angels.
Meanwhile, the Baltimore Orioles had a .611 winning
percentage while competing in the A.L. East
