ented and equally matched rival a
teams.
On paper, a great game is expect- 1
ed. And that's what baseball fans n
got. tl
The game involved a pitching dual, d
constant suspense, a clutch two-run d
homer in the bottom of the ninth, v
which tied the game, and extra innings.

The Gamecocks' Mike Dezenzo "

Clemson's Andy Taulbee in the ninth 0

After a first inning run, USC's of- 0

The Gamecocks took an early lead l<
in the bottom of dSe first fhning, but
were unable to score again until the 8
eighth. Scott Pace, the starting pitcher
for the Gamecocks kept them in 0
the game, scattering three runs over ^
10 hits in six innings. ''
Wally Maynard took over the pitch- s
ing duties in the seventh. Maynard
struck out seven in three innings, giv- s:
ing up one run on three hits.
The Gamecock pitchers left the ^
door open for the offense, which fi- n
nally got back on track in the ninth. P
