woman have her first pelvic exam at
: 18 or when she becomes sexually
active, whichever comes first. Pelvic
exams can detect abnormal growth
in the uterus and ovaries.
Many women think they only
need to get a gynecological exam if
they want birth control. Actually, a
woman needs to have a yearly pelvic
exam to ensure good reproductive
health. Whether you're sexually active
or not, it just make sense to get
this care. The Thomson Student
Health Center provides this care at
an affordable cost.
Within the realm of sexual health,
HIV infection is on the rise in
women. Women are at a greater risk
of catching HIV from a singular sexual
encounter than men are. Cervical
cancer has been added to the list
of opportunistic infections that are
classified as a diagnosis for AIDS.
For a First-hand account of what
it's like to live with AIDS or HIV, at
tend "Living with AIDS: A Woman's
Perspective" at 3:30 p.m. Thursday
in the Russell House Ballroom.
These women are proof that AIDS
doesn't discriminate.
