Saturday's contest between the
Gamecocks and Ole Miss certainly
wasn't pretty, but the Rebels aren't
about to give their fourth conference
win of the year back as they slipped
past USC 68-62 in Oxford.
The Gamecocks shot a season-low
32.7 percent from the field in losing
their fifth straight game and eighth in
their past nine. USC (5-13, 2-7) shot a
paltry 29.2 percent in the first half. <
In a game plagued with 53 fouls, all (
five of USC's starters finished with !
four fouls, and four Mississippi players
fouled out. Things got so bad that j
Gamecock coach Eddie Fogler picked ]
up a technical foul midway through the |
second half for arguing about the Rebel j
players hand checking the Gamecocks. (
"Hand check, hand check," Fogler ,
said entering the press conference fol- j
lowing the game. He was repeating
what he had said to draw the technical ,
foul from the official.
"I just felt that appeared to be hand (
checking," Fogler said. "I've said a lot ^
worse."
The game began with the
Gamecocks turning the ball over on '
four of their first six possessions. They
continued the trend by turning the ball *
over on one out of every three posses- r
sions in the first half. *
The Rebels led at halftime thanks in c
part to Ervin Games' two consecutive
three-pointers during an 11-1 Ole Miss 1
run. Despite hitting only 11 of their 32 r
shots from the floor. Mississippi took a
27-21 lead into the locker room. This a
was mainly because USC knocked C
down just seven of their 24 attempts in C

the NCAAs last year, ran a lifetime best
7.27, to qualify for the NCAA Indoor

On the women's team, senior Sue

the NCAAs, finished third in the shot put
with a toss of 48 feet. Freshman Crystal

Only time will tell. Both J.J.'s have assured
