USC ? Even though the
Gamecocks haven't lived up to
expectations this season, the team
isn't about to throw in the towel.
"Our goals are the same,"
Woods said Monday at his weekly
press conference. "Our immediate
goal is for to get win number four."
Commenting on Saturday's
humiliating 23-0 defeat to
Mississippi Sate, Woods said, "We
were defeated on the line of scrimmage,
especially on offense. I
believe really for the first time we
were moved around on the line of
scrimmage. Their first score of the
second half put us in a real difficult
situation."
The aspects of the game that
need to be improved before USC
faces Vanderbilt Saturday are simple.
"The defense must really work
to contain Vanderbilt's option
offense," Woods said.
"Offensively, we must be more
productive along the line of scrimmage."
There might be some lack of

USC ? Basketball coach Eddie
Fogler is looking to the 1993-94
season to lay the foundation for a
successful future.
"We want to build a foundation
to have a competitive team year in
and year out," he said.
Although Fogler is optimistic
going into the season, he realizes
the Gamecocks face an uphill battle
against SEC competition.
However, he said it isn't unlikely
that USC will be ranked No. 6 in
the preseason polls.
Heading into the season, the
Gamecocks only have three players
who have significant game minutes.
Fogler is looking to Emmetl
Hall, Carey Rich and Jamie
Watson to provide leadership and
guidance to the younger players.
"We could be the most inexperienced
team ever to play in this
conference," Fogler said.

chemistry on the team for a simple
reason: injuries. Four players are
listed as out, and three are listed as
doubtful for the Vanderbilt game.
"We will be forced into changes
because of injuries," Woods said.
"Getting (offensive tackle) Corey
Louchiey back will be a big help."
When asked how the team's
morale is doing, Woods didn't hesitate
to answer.
"Down," he said. "They are disappointed.
Practicing will be good
for them."

gression of the Gamecocks during
the Mississippi State game, Woods
said the offense slipped and the
special teams took a downfall.
Will the fact that Vanderbilt runs
an option offense give Woods and
the defense any problems?
"We have faced it before,"
Woods said. "We have to work to
contain Vanderbilt's option
offense."
While all hopes for a postseason
bowl birth have gone by the wayside
for USC, the season isn't over
by any means.
"Each game will be more and
more critical," Woods said.

Fogler said every position needs
improvement.
"Our center position is questionable,"
he said. "Every position
needs depth, and we need to develop
a point guard. "We have three
proven players, Emmett Hall,
Jamie Watson and Carey Rich,
who have played at this level. They
lead by example on and off the
court."
Fogler said his strengths lie in
the forward position.
"Jamie and Emmett are as competitive
