Heading up the group of special teamers is junior place kicker/punter Marty Simpson. The Columbia native has started for two years at both positions. Simpson, who was a "Parade" High School All-American at Spring Valley High School in Richland County, has connected on 18 of 34 field goals in his career. Simpson has accumulated a 38.5 yard punting average in two years. Included in this stat is a 79-yard kick at Vanderbilt in 1992, which was the longest in the SEC of the season. Another hometown kicker has made his presence felt in his first season at USC. Irmo native Reed Morton has taken over the USC place kicking job this season.
