Senior Alex Cuiran can't wait
until graduation to look for a job.
He's too busy running his own
business, a booking agency that
provides talent to clubs and parties
throughout the Southeast.
Alexander Coyote Co. has contracts
with more than 40 bands,
including Calvin and Friends,
Widespread Panic and Johnny Quest

doesn't demand exclusive contracts. ]
"Bands have been coming to me ,
because I won't tie them into longterm
contracts and demand a percentage
off every show they do," (
the Charlotte, N.C., native said.
Instead, Curran promotes a band |
on a show-to-show basis. Using his
computer's data base, he matches
clubs' openings with bands' opening
dates and tries to get the best fit
"The clubs tell me what kind of
music they want and price range, <
and I'll see which groups are available,"
he said.
To push the bands he represents,
Curran is employing what he calls
a revolutionary marketing technique:

taped, believes Curran to be an
efficient, imaginative manager.
"1 have the utmost confidence in
Alex," he said. "This is a novel
promotional idea."
Curran employed several USC
media arts majors to help produces
the video. One of them, senior Ali
Koleszar, said the experience was
great and might have changed hef
career plans.
I was gonna do lighting and
production for a news show, but
now I might want to do music
videos," she said.
Curran changed his career plans,
too. He was planning to be a stock;
broker until a band member friend
of his asked him to help out on the
financial side of the business. His
company is the outgrowth of that
initial counseling.
"I'm in this for good, all my ;
money's tied up in it and I enjoy
it," he said. "I like helping the
bands and seeing them grow."
