Croats, Muslims lose
about 200 in battle
TUZLA, Bosnia-Herzegovina ?
Heavy fighting was raging
between Croatian and Muslim
forces in central Bosnia, with
U.N. officials estimating at least
200 people have been killed in
four days of battle.
The clashes between two
groups that began the war as allies
erupted as the beleaguered
Muslim forces were suffering an
apparent defeat at the hands of
Serbs in Srebrenica.
Thirteen people were killed
Monday when seven artillery
shells struck the center of the
town of Zenica in central Bosnia
along a strategic highway west of
Sarajevo, British military
spokesman Capt. Lee Smart said
by telephone from Vitez.
Smart said the British command
believed its estimate of 200 dead
in Croatian-Muslim fighting was
conservative.
In Tuzla, British military
spokesman Maj. Martin Waters
said fighting was also reported in
Vitez, Kiseljak and numerous villages
in the area. Waters said
there were no casualties among
the British U.N. troops.

Officials plan limits
on shrimp trawling
ST. PETERSBURG, Ela. Federal
officials plan intermitten
halts in shrimp trawling along tlit
nation's Southeast coast througl
June to help protect endangerec
leatherback sea turtles.
In an edict they hope will cause
as little disruption as possible tc
shrimp fishermen, Nationa
Marine Fisheries Service official:
will rinse 40-milo stretches tr
shrimping for a week or two ii
more than 20 leatherbacks per 10(
nautical miles are spotted in aeria
surveys.
The closings are expected tc
rotate up the coast from Fori
Lauderdale to North Carolina, as
the leatherbacks swim northward
possibly following huge schools
of jellyfish, a favored food. Areas
where shrimping is banned will be
announced weekly on marine
radio channels.
Officials say the huge
leatherbacks ? up to 6 feet long
and 1.500 pounds ? are simply
too big to squeeze through the
special trap doors for turtles now
required on all shrimp nets.
