According to Taper and Shave
Magazine, a swimming magazine
that ranks each of the top 50 times
for all NCAA Division I swimming
events, South Carolina has 11 different
events where the Lady
Gamecocks place 20th or better in
the nation. This is significant
because the top 20 swimmers in
each event have the best chances of
competing in the NCAA Division I
Championship. Listed below are
the rankings, the event and the
swimmer.
4th: 200-meter Breaststroke;
Sara Henninger.
7th: 200-meter Medley Relay;
Michelle McCarthy, Sara
Henninger, Anne Marie Wozniak,
Kerry Fraas.

This past weekend, the
Gamecock men's tennis team competed
in the SEC Indoor
Championships in Lexington, Ky.
While no South Carolina players
won championships, there were
many solid showings for Gamecock
players in the tournament.
In A-flighl Singles play, senior
Mark Palus, sophomore Jimmy
Panagopalous and junior Johan
Wiig all advanced to the round of
32. However, they could get no

It's a jungle out there.
South Carolina continues its
tour through the Southeastern
Conference's version of Wild
Kingdom tonight as the Georgia
Bulldogs invade Frank McGuire
Arena,
The 'Dawgs come to town
sporting an even 7-7 mark overall
and a 2-3 record in the SEC's
Eastern Division. This places
them in fifth place in the East,
half a game behind the
Gamecocks. South Carolina
comes into the game with a 7-8
overall tally, 3-3 in the SEC.
Tonight's game is the 58th
installment of the border war with
Georgia holding a narrow 29-28
advantage over the Gamecocks;
however, the Gamecocks hold a
15-11 edge in games played at
Carolina Coliseum.
The Gamecocks have been on a '
roller coaster of late, alternating 1
wins with losses over their last
six contests. The streak began 1
with the Gamecocks* upset win 1
over Tennessee and has continued
true to form up to this past
Saturday's debacle at the hands of '
the Kentucky Wildcats. |
Georgia just broke their modest
two-game losing streak Saturday 1
with their 88-79 victory over 1
Mercer. Georgia is still stuck in a 1
two-game SEC losing streak, 1
though, falling to Florida and \
Vanderbilt.
South Carolina's junior forward I
Jamie Watson comes into the \
game as the hottest of the
Gamecocks, leading the team in <
scoring for four consecutive '
games. Watson has not been held 1
under 20 points since Jan. 13 (
against Ole Miss, and even that ?
was an 18-point team-high performance.
Watson's streak has ele- *
