"They (Louisiana Tech) came in with intentions ^
of beating us. We're thrilled with the victory," Head y
Coach Sparky Woods said. "A win is a win is a
win." n
The game began with Louisiana Tech kicking off u
to USC. They were penalized 15 yards for unsportsmanlike
conduct before the game and kicked off t(
from their own 20-yard line.
On the first play from scrimmage, quarterback 8
Steve Taneyhill connected with runningback Rob ^
DeBoer for a three-yard gain. Taneyhill then hit
Tobey Cates for a bomb that was called back. USC ^
was penalized 15 yards for clipping. Neither team tc
was able to score on their first possession. tc
The Gamecocks started their second possession ^
on their ,own 28-yard lirte. After a short run by B
Bennett and an*~incomplete pass to Cates, Tech's 0
Jason Davis intercepted a Taneyhill pass on the 34
yard line. 1
In six plays, the Bulldogs were able to move the
ball 34 yards for a touchdown. Jason Cooper scored te
from 13 yards out to put Louisiana Tech up by six u
points. Kicker Chris Boniol added the pat to make
the score 7-0. c<
On their next possession, the Bulldogs were able ^
to move the ball down the field to the 31-yard line. t(
Boniol attempted a 48-yard field goal, but it was 1
wide left. USC took over but was unable to advance
the ball. The ensuing punt was downed on the Tech ir
30-yard line. t(
After the punt, both teams became involved in a
bench clearing brawl. ^

a fourth win
"I am verv embarrassed bv the incident in the
rst half on the punt return. I think that stems from
le emotions that were flowing through the game,"
ouisiana Tech Coach Joe Raymond Peace said.
Tech cornerback John Boyd and USC defensive
ack Cedric Surratt were ejected from the game.
On the drive after the brawl, the Bulldogs were
ble to effectively move the ball down the field,
/ith 4:33 left in the first half, Boniol kicked a 25
ard field goal, making the score 10-0.
But on the ensuing kickoff, USC's Frank Adams

'as a special gift for Adams.
"It couldn't have happened on a better day,
xlay's my birthday," he said.
The touchdown put the Gamecocks back in the
ame. With the score 10-7, USC kicked off to Tech
'ith 4:19 left in the first half.
Again, Tech had no trouble moving down the
eld. Tech's quarterback Aaron Ferguson was able

) split end Corey Parham and wide receiver John
[enry. With 13 seconds remaining in the half,
oniol kicked his second field goal from 44 yards
ut.
The first half ended with Louisiana Tech leading
3-7 and South Carolina without a first down.
The third quarter displayed the talents of both
:ams defense. The only scoring in the second half

USC defensive lineman Mike Washington interred
Ferguson's pass and lateraled it to outside
nebacker Ernest Dixon who ran 37 yards for a
juchdown, putting the Gamecocks ahead for good
4-13.
Although the Bulldogs outplayed the Gamecocks
i almost every statistical category, USC was able
) win the game without an offensive score.
"I don't know who won the fight, but I'm glad
'e won the game," Woods said.
