I feel like I owe an explanation for the coments
made in my Monday column, a column P]

First, I did not say I supported Keith Billiot's j

Second, in the column, I quoted many

not the feelings of the majority of white

But the quotes are reality. All the insults in

Before we can begin to confront the problem

The reality is both blacks and whites continue

On Oct. 26 an open race relations forum was
eld in the Russell House Ballroom. Africanjnericans
made up the largest percent of those
resent. I know that racism is quite alive, but it
eems that only the oppressed have an opinion
n the subject. Are there actually some white
eople who are afraid of reality? I know that
ome white people are afraid of the truth.
The truth is something that White America
as run from since the founding of this "great"
ountry. As an African-American male student,
know that I am seen as a threat to many. I see
vhite women clutch their purses all the time,
nd I've even remarked, "Your purse is too
mall." One can walk through the fraternity
|uad and see the Confederate flags in the winlows.
That flag reminds me that this society is
acist, and it reminds me of what happened to
ay ancestors.
It's very hard to be patriotic in a country in
yhich an African-American can be brutalized or
illed on video tape and have the offenders go
ree. White American truth isn't necessarily
African-American truth.
