Former USC basketball coach George Fellon
was back in South Carolina Sunday, but he was
looking ahead instead of showing bitterness.
Felton, who was bounced as head coach of
the Gamecocks more than a year ago, isn't bitter.

"Those things, they're behind me," said Felton,
now an assistant coach at St. John's. "1
think I handled it very professionally, and that's
the way I've continued to do that."
"So 1 don't dwell on the past. Life's loo
short."
Felton, a native of Jamaica, N.Y., has been at
his new job for almost three weeks, working
under coach Brian Mahoney. As part of his job,
Fellon was at Spartanburg Methodist College
Sunday watching some of the state's best prep
players scrimmage.
"It's like starling over again," Fellon said.
"Any time you go through a situation that 1

Fclton docs appear to have purged any bitterness
since May 14, 1991. Thai's when Athletic

after a reporter let Felton know it was coming.
Fifty-eight days later, South Carolina replaced
him with Steve Newton, but Felton continued
to make news in the Palmetto Stale.
He was arrested and later acquitted on
charges of driving under the influence in Myrtle
Beach. He went to Georgia Tech as an unpaid
graduate assistant for Cremins and took classes
toward a master's degree in psychology.
He flirted with the NBA's Charlotte Hornets
only to lose his chance when coach Gene Littles
