The Gamecocks, who play No. 8 Florida this weekend, split a Southeastern Conference doubleheader with the Volunteers. In the first game, Tennessee used a set of big innings, with nine runs in the fourth and five runs in the fifth. That with a pair of threerun homers by Volunteer first baseman Doug Heckler and third baseman Jeff Foster to beat South Carolina, 18-12. The game ended when junior i second baseman Joe Biernat tried I to stretch a bases-loaded double into a triple and ended the Gamecock's five-game SEC win streak. The loss eliminated the Lady Gamecocks from the Southeastern Conference tournament on Friday afternoon at the University of Alabama's Varsity Courts. The Lady Gamecocks only had one victor in the match, Claire Hammond.
