Taxes must pay
for birth control
To the editor:
This letter is in response to Brian
Garland's "Cross Fire" editorial about
birth control services at the Thomson
Student Health Center (April 15). Did
you stop to think that not everyone's
mom pays for their education? Some
I students work and pay taxes and tuition
themselves. Most college students are
not "vulnerable children," but mature
adults who can make their own decisions
without a parent's permission or
knowledge. Many of our students have
"different values and beliefs" as you
stated hut manv are married fnnt
"promiscuous").
Also, did you know your taxes support
local health departments where
birth control pills and condoms are free
or very inexpensive? Would you rather
vpay thousands in taxes for support of
an unwanted child? The state pays for
services for "those who choose to have
sex" in and out of college. Everyone
^ho pays taxes supports Jhese services.
