South Carolina, ranked No. 2 in the South Region, improved its record to 39-9 by defeating the Lady Chanticleers 8-3, 3-0. Senior hurler Jana Zimmerman, who leads the team in home runs, was a power from the mound and ine oauer s dox weanesaay. Zimmerman, who improved her record to 17-4, picked up the win after hitting two triples and scoring two runs. Junior outfielder Tonya Evania also had two doubles in the game to give the Lady Gamecocks the win. This year, as the Gamecocks wage war in the Southeastern Conference, they will be doing so in newly-designed black jerseys. The change was instituted because there are at least four SEC schools with jerseys which contain some shade of garnet, while only Vanderbilt has a uniform in which black is a predominant color.
