About Baseball And Wheelchairs: Jim Brady said designers have done a great job making Baltimore's new baseball stadium ot>en to DeoDle in wheelchairs and those with other physical hardships. "This is a place that's friendly to me and to so many of my friends who are fans with disabilities. This ballpark welcomes us," said the former White House press secretary at a ceremony in front of the Orioles' dugout Sunday. The first regular season game at Oriole Park at Camden Yards was scheduled Monday against the Cleveland Indians. Brady, who has been in a wheelchair since being shot during the attempted assassination of President Reagan in 1981, said the stadium's low concession stands, five elevators, inclined ramps and wide corridors make it the most accessible major league park in the nation. Three Years Ago At USC: (From the April 10, 1989 issue of The Gamecock) The Ecology Committee and the Board of Trustees were looking into a compromise that would phase out overnight, opposite-sex visitation for freshmen and sophomores beginning in the fall of 1990. The compromise would require the Ecology Committee and the board to review the possibility of phasing out these visitation rights for juniors and seniors in the fall of 1992. The plan would not affect any student presently enrolled at USC, but those students on whom it would have an impact would have no voice in the matter, said Student Government President MarieLouise Ramsdale, a member of the Ecology Committee. There are more than a hundred agencies registered with the OCSP, and students only need to express an interest to become a needed and appreciated volunteer in Columbia. Once you find the time to give, the rewards can be immeasurable. Plus, it may be a fun break from the daily routines of a college campus. Cyndy Martino of the OCSP says the most common excuse for not volunteering is a lack of time. However, it only takes a few minutes each week to make a difference, she said. Any volunteer work, five minutes to five hours, is needed and appreciated by the OCSP and the many volunteer recipients, she said. Students also may think volunteer work is a last resort to fill spare time. Therefore, many students may leave the volunteering to those with more time on their hands. But the OCSP handbook says, "There is nothing boring or Second-rate about service; there is nothing boring about teaching people to read, feeding the hungry or making someone smile."
