as the NCAA Tournament has ||
pared its way down to two gladiators
who will duel for the title ||
of National Champion Monday
night.
The Michigan Wolverines and
the defending national champions,
the Duke Blue Devils, will
meet in a return bout of their
early season clash in Ann Arbor,
Mich., in which Duke needed
overtime to prevail. ti

streetball. Also, two of the five
did not start in the first encounter
? Jimmy King and Ray Jackson.
They have since cracked the
starting lineup, forcing starters
from game one onto the Michigan
bench, making it extremely
formidable.
Duke, though, is as battlehardened
as any team could possibly
be. They have won every
type of game possible, from
blowouts to buzzer-beaters, and
absolutely refuse to crack under
pressure. While the Wolverines
have matured unbelievably over
the course of the year, no team
can match the Duke poise when
it comes to crunch time.
The duel will be one not to
miss.

A visiting Gamecock baseball
team lost both games of a doubleheader
to Auburn Saturday, 4-1
and 3-2.
South Carolina, 23-10 overall
and 1-7 in the Southeastern Conference,
faces rival Clemson 7
p.m. Wednesday at Clemson.
In the first game against Auburn,
junior starting pitcher Jared
Baker, 1-3, went six-and-a-third
innings for South Carolina, giving
up four runs on nine hits and five
walks.
South Carolina got its lone run
in the sixth inning when junior designated
hitter D. T. Cromer drove
in senior right fielder Brian
Lawler.

match-up.
The Gamecocks stranded eight
men on the bases while striking
out 11 times in the first game.
Statistics of the second game
were unavailable at press time
Sunday night.
Thursday night the Gamecocks
trounced The Citadel 32-5 at Sarge
Frye Field, setting a school record
for runs. The Gamecocks also tied
five more records, three by senior
shortstop Randy Thompson.
The Gamecocks scored six runs
in the second, nine in the fourth,
and eight in the sixth for the bulk
of their rout. They batted around in
three different innings and sent at
least seven to the plate in two
other innings.
