South Carolina expected the vaunted Tiger defense to stuff the Gamecocks' running game. They did. USC did not expect Clemson quarterback DeChane Cameron to account for more than 320 yards total offense, 206 through the air. But he did. The Clemson Tigers, utilizing Cameron's quick feet and accurate arm, exploded for 17 third quarter points en route to a 41-24 thrashing of the Gamecocks Saturday afternoon before a Williams-Brice Stadium crowd of 74,200. Only Wright Mitchell's 15-yard touchdown run with 1:19 left in the game enabled USC to have positive rushing yardage. "We knew coming into the game their offensive line wasn't that great," Clemson linebacker Ed McDaniel said outside a jubilant Tiger locker room.
