When word spread across campus
that Carlos Turner had been
accused of stabbing his girlfriend
Friday, the reactions from students
ranged from the shocked to the
outraged.
Turner had just signed a letter of
intent to play basketball at USC
this past Wednesday. Saturday, he
was facing first degree assault and
first degree burglary charges in
Louisville, Ky. after he alledgedly
stabbed his girlfriend seven times
with a butcher knife. Nicole Shrivers,
18, suffered stab wounds to
the chest, neck, back and arms. After
he stabbed her, he left the
house and stabbed himself once in
the chest.
Carey Evans, a senior guard on
USC's basketball team, said he
can't believe what happened.
"I was shocked when I heard,"
he said. "I met him when he was
here. He didn't appear like that to
w
me.

Evans said he hopes this won't
affect USC's recruiting, but he
said he thinks USC's coaches will
be more cautious in their
recruiting.
"Hopefully it won't have an impact
on our recruiting nationwide,"
he said. "I think the coaches will

Heath said he does not believe
the blame lies with head coach

"I think Steve Newton is being
unjustly criticized for this," he

Finance senior Bill Osborne also
said it seems this latest incident is

The question of whether Turner
still plays at USC was highly disputed,
however.
Michael Barton, senior International

incarceration, Turner should be allowed
to play.
Barton said, "If he's not convicted,
why not let him play?"
