The Campus Ministries International speaker discounted the media, calling most of them "bisexual or homosexuals" who have done much of nothing to solve the problem of AIDS in America. Ken Dew entertained students at a Rock Christian Fellowship sponsored seminar in the Russell House where he said the entire campus desperatley needed to hear his message. Dew favored abstinence (until marriage) as a way to save future marriages. "In this society, girls are- not asked out because of their nice company. Most guys on this campus want to go out with girls because they put out," Dew said. But when guys are looking to marry someone, 40 percent want to find a girl who is a virgin ? someone who has not been "violated or touched," according to Dew. "That's when they say 'I can't have sex with my wife because I remember all the perverted things I did before,"' Dew said, adding that many of the relationships end in divorce. In the World... Condoms do not produce safe sex or prevent the spread of AIDS and other diseases, according to Dew. In fact, he said 40 to 60 percent of students on this campus have some type of sexually transmited disease. As far as AIDS, Dew said 374 people a week are exposed to AIDS in America. He said 220 people die every week because of the disease. Dew said his statistics point out that AIDS is 100 times as bad as what the media reports. The speaker said America is not doing enough to stop the spread of AIDS. Dew said offereing drug-users clean needles is not the answer. "What they're saying is 'Hey, we won't let you die of AIDS, but go shoot up and die that way,"' Dew said. Dew also said testing college students for the disease would help solve the problem. What's ironic, Dew said, is that universities are requiring testing of German Measles and Tuberculosis (which do not normally kill), but refuse to test students for AIDS because the ACLU said it would "stigmatize people." Dew will remain on campus Monday and Tuesday to present "Hells Bells," an expose on rock music ^ which will examine where music is headed in the Koi '90s. _ the Nation...
