the deck.
Rockafella's has become significant
to Columbia culturally due to
the variety of music and people in
the bar. Hines believes the variety
of people who frequent the bar is
one of the reasons there are never
any fights in the bar. He also said
being in Rockafella's "makes me
feel at home."
Hines is from Long Island, N.Y.
and says the bar is one of the major
reasons he stayed in Columbia.
The other members of the Rockafella's
staff are also from diverse
backgrounds. Jack Jacobs, also a
principal owner is from Chicago,
and the sound technician, Gary, is
from England. The people in the
club can sometimes be as interesting
as the entertainment
Another attraction which should
not be overlooked is the fountain
designed by Hines which can be
seen at the entrance to the deck.
The fountain consists of a nude
green mannequin in a green bathtub
with a stream of water flowing

out of a green bottle suspended
overhead. No other bar in town offers
any comparable artwork.
Some of the acts appearing at
Rockafella's during the next few
weeks include Love Tractor on the
24th, Aleka's Attic featuring River
Phoenix on the 31st and H.R., a
reggae act featuring the singer
from Bad Brains. In September
some acts to catch include B.O.A.
and the Neighborhoods.
