Summer By DAVID BOWDEN and AARON SHEININ Editors With summer upon us, Dave and I decided we would look back at some of the movies already released and preview a few that are coming soon. Backdraft: What ever you do, see this movie, see it now. Do not wait to see it on video tape because you'll miss the effect of the fire. Boyz in the Hood: Any movie with Ice Cube can't be all that bad. Right Aaron? NOT! City Slickers: Billy Crystal was hilarious but the movie was kind of sad. I laughed, I cried ... Jack Gulf celebratio with concert at By AMY ECKBERG Staff Writer The celebrations started in early March with the first Persian Gulf war veterans returning home. In mid-June, the celebrations are still continuing at full speed. As New York's lower Manhattan boasted a huge ticker-tape parade last week, Columbia also had a celebration to be proud of. Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves: Decent movie, but Kevin Costner needs to work on the accent. Morgan Freeman and Alan Rickman steal the movie. Yea Dave, but you got to see Kevin's butt, right? The Rocketeer: It probably won't be that good, but I am lookns continue Koger Center filled with spirited patrons. With a super-size 30* by 35' American flag as a backdrop, the audience was treated to patriotic performances by the 282nd Army Band, the Parris Island Marine Corps Band and the Navy Band Charleston. Local WIS-TV weatherman Joe Pinner served as narrator and master of ceremonies. Pinner summed up the event when he said, lhose musicians were fantastic." Patrons were also treated to a display of the 50 American state flags which were located in the Koger Center lobby. Koger Center Staff Supervisor Dennis Bladen said, "the Koger Center was proud to host such a celebration.' *** g?$?S?SraIPlilw? Julie Bouchilion/The Gamecock ina Coliseum Thursday. The outfit alone is enough. Oh come on Aaron, it was a good movie. And, it had the most beautiful girl in the world, Jennifer Connelly. Soapdish: The story line was interesting enough, but I just got really tired of Sally Field's whining. Kevin Kline saved the movie. Terminator 2: The most eagerly awaited movie since Batman. The previews look awesome. A Director James Cameron always ^A knows how to make a really excit- A ing, blood-drenched action film. Schwarzenegger looks as imposing Ed O'f as usual, if not more so, as the JoBeth V Terminator. The one-liners I've drive he seen just add to the anticipation.
