Tickets are $3 for students and $7 for the public and are availbale at Carolina Coliseum and SCAT outlets. Riley is the winningest coach in NBA history, has won four NBA championship titles and was named 1990 NBA Coach of the Year, and NBA Coach of the Decade. USC researcher named to energy committee Dr. Paul Huray, senior vice president for research at USC has been named to a U.S. Department of Energy advisory committee on basic energy research. Huray will advise the director on setting priorities, including structuring long-range projects and allocating $6.4 billion in federal funds for research programs. Music school to receive new wind instruments The USC School of Music will receive 34 new Yamaha wind instruments in August, thanks to a loan agreement among USC, Yamaha Corp. and Columbia's Pecknel Music store. The instruments, which include flutes, clarinets, oboes, trumpets, trombones, French horns, tubas and bassoons, will be loaned to the university to replace aging and unusable instruments in USC's music education program. The retail of the instruments is $27,000. At the end of the 1991-92 school year, Pecknell Music will sell the instruments at a reduced price and again loan USC 34 new wind instruments. The agreement will continue indefinitely. College of Engineering receives two grants M The College of Engineering has been awarded $117,233 in grants to teach undergraduates how to design and troubleshoot electrical and electronic systems. The college's department of electrical and computer engineering received six logic analvzers. valued at $62,184. in February from the Hewlett-Packard Co. In a separate award, the department has been awarded a $55,049 grant from the National Science Foundation to buy computers and software for undergraduate instruction in computeraided design (CAD). USC will match the cash grant with $55,049, for a total of $110,098 to be used in purchasing the CAD equipment.^ Freshman year to be discussed From Staff Reports Student Personnel/Higher Education Administration masters students will present a program on the subject of evaluating the Freshman Year Experience at USC. The EDHE (Higher Education) 822 graduate students will report their findings based on a set of Guidelines for Evaluating the Freshman Year Experience. These guidelines were formed at the start of the year by the graduate students. The presentation will take place 2:30 p.m. March 27 in the Gambrell Hall Auditorium. Director John Gardner said, "It is my hope that this will be a valuable learning experience for the students and that they will produce both an oral ana written repdrt that will be of use to interested members of the university community who wish to further enhance the freshman year experience at USC-Columbia."
