Most romance films are smarmy, C 11-' J T wasiw ui Lcnuiuiu. i cry in them often, however; I weep for my wasted money. What follows are a collection of films that rise above the writhing bile of the Romance Genre and genuinely bring out some loving, tender emotions. They are not necessarily conventional boy-meets-girl flicks, but are, in general, stories about loving relationships (sorry, no Wet Porn Action). The Big Easy: An erotic film set in the erotic city of New Orleans starring Dennis Quaid and the erotic Ellen Barkin. Ghost: Alright, I know everybody on the frigging planet has seen it, but it was the best love story to come out of Hollywood this past year. Despite the fact that one of the lovers is dead, it is a really cool love story. And Demi Moore can cry with the best of them. Nine and 1/2 Weeks: This film is the closest thing to porn in this article. This is a great story of one woman's obsessive relationshin with a sadistic, perverted lover (played by Kim Bassinger and Mickey Rourke respectively). Rourke's character implements ice, food and dark alleys in his game of sexual domination over the nubile yet naive professional woman (did I say she was played by Kim Bassinger?). Not to overemphasize that this would be a good Valentine rental, but writing about this film makes me want to smoke a cigarette. On Golden Pond: The story of an old couple's love for each other may not thrill some people, but I found this to be an excellent movie.
