His analogy to theater is the
scene of an accident. Each witness
in telling the story will act out the
different roles, but the passer-by
will not believe he or she is actually
seeing the accident happen.
Brecht's theater destroys illusion
in favor of didacticism.
Dreher's "poor theater" production
is quite in line with those ideals.
The scaffolding set, onstage
band and trash taken literally from
the street all let the audience know
this isn't another pretty evening at
the theater.
