Hutton said the Flying Club
had raised the money for the
price of the plane, which cost
$17,000. The only funds needed
from the student activity funds
were the insurance fees.
Brewer disagreed. He said the
club did not have the proper
funds to purchase the airplane,
and they needed to go through
Universitv Purchasing.

Stith said the Flying Club may
end up without any airplanes after
the incident is resolved.
"Brewer said that USC would
handle the rest of the purchase
with the $17,000 that we set
aside to pay for it in full at our
last club meeting," Stith said.

were final, then Brewer said

said that the university might
sell our other plane before it's

Brewer denied this statement
and said he did not know what
was going to happen to the
plane.
"Right now, we're just trying
to settle everything with this ^incident.
The plane is on Owens
Field, the University has a lien
on it, and we cannot make a decision
on what to do until all the
loose ends of the contracts are
tied," Brewer said.
The Flying Club elected new
officers and a new adviser Oct.
25. The new president, Andrew
Holbrook, said, "Right now, I'm
trying to make a new budget
and reform the club. We have to
move on and try to put this behind
us."

Holbrook was unsure of
where the Flying Club got the
$17,000 needed to purchase the
new plane.
"All I know is that every year
the Flying Club has $35 dues
collected from members. My accountant
and I are still investi
gating the issue to see if the Flying
Club had collected the
$17,000 from members to purchase
the plane," he said.
Stith believes the decisions of
the Office of Student Life have
been harsh and unjust.
"Everything related to this incident
has been the result of
complete misunderstandings. We
misunderstood the contract and
the Office of Student Life (who)
initiated the investigation misunderstood,
as well," he said. "I
don't feel that this punishment
is right, nor do I feel is it justifiable
for USC to make $17,000
off of the Flying Club."
