team's leading receiver said he'll
be back in the lineup ? at least
part time ? for Saturday's game
in Raleigh, N.C.
"It's funny how everybody
thinks my right knee is the problem,"
said Brooks, who will return
to the lineup a week earlier than
expected. "That's fine. My cartilage
has healed. It's the liner in my
left knee that's keeping me from
playing."
Brooks had surgery on his left
knee in July. He returned to play
the first four games but battled
swelling. He said that will continue
to be a problem until he
takes at least two months off from
hard training, which he plans to do
as soon as the season is over.
This week he will be used in
special situations, such as thirddown
pass plays and plays inside
the 30-yard line.

Brooks leads the team with 16
receptions for 224 yards and two
touchdowns.
On another offensive front, running
back Mike Dingle's back appears
fine and is expected to start
Saturday. Dingle leads the Gamecocks
with 487 yards. If Dingle is
unable to start, freshman Rob DeBoer
would likely take his place.
DeBoer, who came to USC on a
baseball scholarship, has rushed
for more than 100 yards the last
two games and has 344 yards
overall. DeBoer is the only true
freshman to have rushed for more
