Campus Several displays from this past ye; By MARIA F. QUINONES Staff Writer Get the hammer, nails, chicken wire, tissue paper and paints. Tuesday the organizations involved with Homecoming 1990 will begin building their displays on the McBryde Quadrangle and the Horseshoe. There will be 11 organizations competing in Cockfest this year. Organizations are teaming up to create their displays. On the Quad they are as follows: Delta Delta Delta with Chi Psi, Sigma Chi with Chi Omega, Alpha Chi Omega with Kappa Alpha, Delta Zeta with Lambda Chi Alpha, Delta Gamma with Sigma Alpha Eplison, Tau Kappa Epsilon with Kappa Kappa Gamma, and Alpha Delta Pi with Alpha Tau Omega. On the Horseshoe the following groups will build displays: Kappa Delta with Delta Tau Delta, Kappa Alpha Theta with Zeta Beta Tau, the Association ot tionor students with the Horseshoe Student Government Association, and Preston Government Association with Patterson Government Association. To be eligible for judging, the organizations must follow regulations set by the Homecoming Commission. For example, no display can exceed the height of 12 feet, and the base can be no larger than 25x25 feet. The organizations are not allowed to use a tree, building, stakes or benches to hold up the display. When all building is completed and the paint brushes are cleaned, the judging will begin. The displays are judged under different categories on a poini system, ine displays can earn up to 10 points for color, 40 for originality, 20 for work, 20 for consistency and 20 for the overall display. The judges' scores are then added, and the group receiving the most points wins. There will be first, second and third place winners. Each winner will receive a plaque. This point system was not used this past year. The fairness of this method was questioned because large displays faced more competition. This past year, there were eight large display entries and four small entries, with three P prizes for each category. "In the past years, the system was kind of unfair," Homecoming m? Committee Chairman Richard Rowell said. "So we scrapped that system. The new system imposed f~Z by the Homecoming Committee I will smoothe things out and make the competition more fair." Cash prizes are also a thing of the past Ideas are sacred when it comes to the Homecoming displays, therefore the Homecoming Commission could not divulge any of the organizations' ideas or themes. "Some are using the Cocky theme and Carolina theme," Homecoming Commission graduate assistant Sherri McBride said. "The organizatons are basically sticking to these two themes."
