At 6 feet 3 inches, 275 lbs.,
USC senior offensive tackle Ike
Harris has been labeled an AllAmerican
candidate and a big,
physical player with pro-potential.
However, Harris humbly claims
that he didn't dream about playing
big time college football until his
junior year at Lower Richland
High School.
"I was more basketball oriented.
I liked basketball a lot. But I just
kept growing and growing, and my
coach told me I could play college
sports."
As a senior at Lower Richland,
Harris was also recruited by Clemson,
Tennessee and Virginia. He
had his top choices narrowed down
to Clemson, Tennessee and USC.

a while simply because he thought
he might like getting a little further
away from home. Harris grew up
in a home only 20 minutes away
from Williams-Brice Stadium. He
was quick to add "After only one
year, I couldn't stand 'the
orange'!"
Harris said that, ultimately, his
decision was not very difficult. "I
saw the chance I had to grow
academically as well as athletically
and I knew it was the best place
for me."

To slay in top physical condition,
Harris lifts weights, jumps
rope and jogs. He still plays basketball
when he gets a chance, an
activity that makes some coaches
cringe because of the potential for
getting an ankle injury.
Harris probably won't be playing
a lot of basketball anytime
soon, however, since he is recover
ing from his pre-season ankle
injury.
"My ankle is still swelled pretty
bad but there's not that much pain
anymore. I figure my health is
probably 90 to 95 percent, it's not
100 percent yet."
Ike Harris is a team player who
says that "the whole line has to
work together. If one link breaks
down it's gonna hurt the whole offensive
line. As far as my leadership
role, I'm a senior and I feel
it's up to me to try to keep a positive
attitude even if you're losing
bad."
Looking towards the Homecom
mg game againsi nasi Carolina,
Harris commented, "East Carolina
is pretty good this year. They
played Georgia a very close game.
As far as it being Homecoming, I
take all the games the same. I
don't take any opponents lightly
because anyone can hurt you.

that's the game you remember for
the rest of your life. As a senior I
just want to go out with a bang!"
In terms of his personal goals
for the future, Harris admits that
for the last two years he has been
hearing "you can play professional
football" but he insists it's still just
a big game. Right now, Harris just
wants to finish his college career
and get through the season with
several more victories. He is hoping
that USC will be able to compete
in a post-season bowl game.
