USC athletic director King Dixon said SportsNet will originate live broadcasts of the Gamecock road game at Virginia Tech and home games against East Carolina and Florida State. They will air delayed telecasts of home games with Duke, North Carolina and The Citadel. Veteran sportscaster Jim Thacker of Charlotte will be the play-by-play announcer with former Gamecock and National Football League punter Max Runagei providing color analysis. Jon Pritchett will be the sideline an nouncer. Jim Forest, president of SportsNet, will be the executive producer of Gamecock and Toby Jenkins will be the producer. South Carolina's Nov. 22 game with West Virginia was earlier announced as a national telecast by ESPN and the Nov. 17 contest at Clemson will be part of the Atlantic Coast Conference package, giving the Gamecocks eight television appearances this fall. Air time for the live telecasts will be noon with a 12:10 p.m. kickoff. The University, in conjunction with Jim Seay Productions of Columbia, will offer the service by dialing 1-900-230-2001, with the service available 24 hours a day. "We are certainly excited about the announcement of our Gamecock Hotline," athletic director King Dixon said. "With the number of expanded lines and services involved, we will now be in a position to offer our Gamecock fans across the country the opportunity to keep up with our athletic programs and our Alumni Association's activities." There will be five programs available on the Gamecock Hotline, compared to just one in 1989 when the popularity of the informational telephone source produced as many as 19,000 calls in a single week. Line two will feature coaches and players comments, providing studio quality voice reports from coaches and players regarding all seasonal sports at South Carolina, giving coverage to all 15 varsity Gamecock sports.. Line five will provide fans the opportunity to voice their opinions on the Gamecock Feedback line. This line will allow up to 90 seconds of comments from fans about any subject of their choice. From the daily recordings, each tape will be reviewed with information then provided for consideration by the various departments involved. Seay feels the immediacy of the telephone will be the hotline's greatest asset. "We will cover all the sports at USC. A lot of events don't get covered or get very little publicity, yet their fans are as important as any other sport," Seay said. He also mentioned that in todays world, the radio, television, newspaper and now telephones are all complimentary. Due to the expansiveness of the Gamecock Hotline there will be a charge of 95 cents per minute for each call. Calls must be originated from a touch tone telephone.
