Ballads, pop playing thh By ANTHONY KEITH Staff Writer Summertime means a lot of things . . . .Hot weather and hot albums are definitely included. This week we will review some major blockbuster albums and singles of the summer! Bell Biv DeVoe, "Do Me" (MCA) Bell Biv DeVoe released single has a bump and grind style that's already sparked the attention of radio stations and their listeners. Be tween BBD and their partner Johnny Gill, New Edition spinoffs are showing indication of summer chart domination. The only question left to answer is ? where is Ralph? Babyface, "My Kinda Girl" (Solar/Epic) Well, we have gone three tracks deep on Babyface's "Tender Lover" album and each time the result has been #1. "My Kinda Girl" will definitely take some time to get to that spot, if that is indeed possible. This tune is hard to sing along and dance to. It will have to grow on listeners and critics alike. Seduction, "Could This Be Love" (A&M) This group was once in strong contention of being the next Supremes. Then again so is any allfomnla rn-Aiin iijVIA n 1 f\ i.i/iuaiis giuu^; wiiu naa a iuj; iu hit. This group has released a ballad this time around and it is kickin'. The hook is strong and should do well on the A/C charts. Seduction sings this song like they have something to prove and they do it well. After 7, "Can't Stop" (Virgin) The fourth, feel-good single from After 7 vocal trio is the sunny, mid-tempo "Can't Stop." Kevin Edmonds takes the lead mic for this jam about reciprocated love that should take the group's If you're in default on a guaranteed SLS, or PLUS loan), you may be el or collection charges. Of course, L.A. & Babyface wrote and produced this solid track. This is the kind of tune you hum all day. You just can't stop. Spyro Gyra, Fast Forward (GRP) As the title of this album would imply this is not a look back into Spyro history but a celebration of the history-making music that makes this band great. While two new members join the Spyro-lines, Spyro Gyra are talent deep for the 90's. After 14 years and as many albums, Spyro is at the top of its game with tracks like "4MD", the Caribbean opener "Bright Lights,""Futurephobia" and the acoustic-flavored "Escape Hatch." My favorite is "Tower of Babel" featuring Isreali pop star David Broza. Spyro is fast forward and on the cutting edge of jazz music. Buckwheatzydeco "Hey Good Lookin'" (Island) Buckwheat Zvdco is not a main stream country band. In fact, the first time I heard this song I was watching the video on VH-1. Okay, it was one of those late night 'thangs'. Anyway, this country-alternative band hooked up with country star DwighrYoakum and Los Lobos' David Hidalgo on this Hank Williams' classic. The end result is a tune so off the wall it works. Until next time remember music is in the ear of the beholder. So go and behold some good music.
