When Town Theatre chose the
Neil Simon comedy Broadway
bound, to ciose 11s / isi season nere
in Columbia they apparently knew
they were making a wise choice.
Though not without its problems
this production is well done and
very, very entertaining.
Broadway Bound, a Tony and
Outer Circle Award winner, is the
the third play in a series of plays
by Simon loosely based on his JH
own life and early experiences. fl
The other two plays Brighton
Beach Memoirs and Biloxi Blues
have also been extremely successful
and critically acclaimed.
As with the other two plays
Broadway Bound revolves around
the lives of Eugene Jerome and his
family. In the play Eugene and his
older brother Stan. Dlaved bv Da
vid Davenport and August Krickel
respectively, hope to escape the mKf
nowhere jobs and dulldrums of
their poor New York neighborhood
by becoming comedy writers.
Just as it seems as though their
dream might come true when they
get an audition as writers for a
television show, they begin to realize
that their father's extramarital
affair and his ambitions for more
out of life are wrecking the family's
peace and unity.
The brothers must face having
to reconcile their own ambitions
