The FMCs counter this by say- L

ban on the imports of swordfish
but, as Segal said, these fishermen
will either find another market or,
as one importer-exporter suggested,
a ban will not stop anyone
who seriously wants the swordfish
within the United States.
As with any environmental debate,
the Amendment One issue is
emotionally charged.
One wife of a fisherman who

was in tears as she asked the council
to reconsider Amendment One.
A marine biologist seemed as
equally disturbed as he spoke about
the depletion of the swordfish.
"If I thoueht this were iust an
argument in favor of an abstract
conservation concept over men's
lives I wouldn't be here," marine
biologist Ken Hienmen said.
