What if I told you that losing
top scorer and rebounder John
Hudson and team captain Terry
Dozier to graduation won't stop
the Gamecock basketball team
from winning 20 games this season.
What if I went even further
and said that having its top 3-point
shooter, Brent Price, transfer to
Oklahoma won't turn out to be
that big of a deal after all.
You're probably wondering if

I'm putting up my nose.
Well, the fact of the matter is
this: I believe USC will have its
first 20-win season in seven years.
A relatively weak schedule, a
down year in the Metro Conference
and an excellent defensive
team should get coach George Felton
over the 19-wins-per-season
hump he's been on for the past
two seasons.
Think I'm sticking my neck out?
Nah, not really.
If all the tournaments I've
watched and all the coaches I've
listened to have taught me one
thing, it's this ? defense wins
games. And USC should be a topnotch
defensive team.
USC's schedule, while it has
steadily improved over the days
when Bill Foster was the coach, is
weak. Traditionally competitive
Texas-El Paso, Ohio State, Maryland,
Tennessee and Richmond are
all not as strong as they normally
are, and the Gamecocks should
have problems only with the Miners
and Spiders.
The weakness of USC's nonconference
schedule is matched by
that of the Metro.
Louisville lost Kenny Payne and
Pervis Ellison. Florida State lost
