USC head coach Sparky
Woods discussed his concerns about
the defensive line of Georgia
Tech at his weekly press conference
Monday.

Georgia Tech head coach Bobby
Ross was quick to praise the
Gamecock running game, led by
runningback Harold Green.
Ross has many veterans along
the line of scrimmage; the Yellow
Jackets are "a big sjout football
team," Woods said.
'They have an exciting quarterback,
an exceptional tailback in
Jerry Mays and good receivers."
Woods is most concerned with
the Yellow Jackets' big defensive
front. "If you watched any of their
games, they are very difficult to
run on."
By preventing a ground game,
the Yellow Jackets forced N.C.
State to pass the ball 40 times.
"It should be a basic game. We
are getting effort, good effort,"
Woods said.
Woods also said injuries have
been a problem all season, but the
Gamecocks will be more healthy
going into this week's game than
this past week's game.

tackle, will be moved back to the
starting nose guard position because
of the injury to sophomore
nose guard Bobby Brown, who is
out for the season. Junior Keith
McDonald and senior Dale Campbell
will start at the comers.
Ross said via telephone hookup
that the Gamecocks are a good
football team, and he is not concentrating
on the fact that some
Gamecocks may want revenge after
the 34-0 thrashing USC took in
Atlanta this past season, which
dropped USC down in the national
rankings. The Gamecocks had
reached eighth in the Associated
Press Top Twenty poll before the
loss. USC had won its first six
games before playing the Yellow
Jackets. They went on to win only
two of their last five regular season
games.
The only change that he sees
from this past season is that USC
is running the ball more successfully
this season, he said.
"Harold Green is one of the premier
tailbacks in the country,"
Ross said.
Despite USC's effectiveness at
running the ball this season, this
has not diminished the danger of
the Gamecock passing game.
USC's senior quarterback (Todd
Ellis) is one of the best in the
country, Ross said.

USC also has great receivers, as
well as the threat Green poses of
catching the ball.
He didn't say much about the
new defensive philosophy, other
than that USC has a different defensive
line philosophy and some
great linebackers.
Georgia Tech is 0-2 and is looking
to turn the season around.

Division I-A opponent which was
against USC this past year. He has
never won an Atlantic Coast Conference

Yellow Jackets.
This past year Georgia Tech finished
the season with a 3-8 mark.
Kickoff for the contest is at 7
