Salutations, headbanging-type people
out there. We've got some
volatile stuff this week that we
guarantee will cause a stir. It's a double
dose of fun.
If it's any indication, our necks are
a bit sore. These are pretty wicked.
By the way, how many music
critics does it take toXcrew in a lioht
bulb?
Six. One to do it and the rest to tell
him how to do it better.
Skid Row Skid Row (Atlantic
Records)? The name of this band
from New Jersey may sound
familiar. They shook the rafters
yesterday at Rockafellas,' and there
are a lot of sore necks around campus
today. We prescribe a little dab
of Ben Gay administered by a hot
Swedish babe before taking on the
record, too.
This is a pretty exciting debut for a
band. They seem to have all the
elements, and the only place Row is
headed is up.
It's difficult to put a finger on their
sound, but we'll try. The harmonies
are a little Def Leppardish and, in
fact, a few of our sources liken them
to early Leppard. Then again, Bon
Jovi comes to mind.
Whatever their influences, they are
good influences.
The best song is a sassy tune called
"Here I Am." It's one that sticks in
your head.
Here guitarist Dave "The Snake"
Sabo proves he's no slouch, and wiry
vocalist Sebastian Bach does a little
Axl Rose, Steven Tyler and Klaus
Meine.
"Youth Gone Wild" and "Rattlesnake
Shake" are also most decent
tunes.
In totem, this is an album that
would find a home in any weekend
cruising machine, and it's only thier
first shot.
Winger Winger (Atlantic
Records)? Even though this album
appeared late last year, there are still
some non-believers out there. Winger
is good, they're damn good.
Kip Winger, singer/guitarist, has
gathered himself quite a team of
assault rockers. They should easily
demolish any doubts.
Kip has come a long way since being
a bassist for Alice Cooper. He's

The entire album is good like an
oreo. You can chomp right into it
from start to finish or eat out the
middle first.
"Seventeen," a song that people
are familiar with from MTV, is quite
a rush. It's got a good beat, and you
can bang to it. Kip knows his licks
pretty well.
"Madalaine" is also a catchy tune.
After the initial mortal cry to disrupt
the classical intro, the song becomes
hard and fast with some notable key
changes.
The album also has something that
we've never heard before and stands
pretty unprecedented in the annuls of
rock. Winger does a cover of "Purple
Haze," the rally song of the
legendary Jimi Hendrix. J
What's more, Dweezil Zappa is the
