The USC soccer team's best season
since the program began in 1978
came to an end Saturday with a 2-0
loss to No. 7 Howard in the NCAA
semifinals in Bloomington, Ind.
The Bison, now 19-0-1, scored two
second-half goals and moved on to
face host Indiana in the championship
game Sunday. The Hoosiers
defeated No. 2 Portland Saturday,
1-0.
"What this was all about as I see it
is a team that took stock of itself in
September and made a commitment
to themselves and each other to be
the best that they could be," said
USC Head Soccer Coach Mark Berson.
"They played with a great deal
of enthusiasm as wefl as skill, and
_ v. they were rewarded for it with a great
season."
After a scoreless first half in which
USC could not convert on several
scoring opportunities, Howard
scored two second-half goals to put
the match away.
With 36:24 left in the game, the
Bison received a penalty kick when
Gamecock defender Mike Gosselin
fouled Howard's Peter Isaacs in the

For those looking to release tensions from a hard
day of studying, for those trying to lose weight or
for those who just want to get a look at some
healthy bodies, USC's physical education center is
offering a new fitness program.
The program, scheduled to begin in the spring
semester under the fitness and sports clubs division,
includes sessions in aerobic dance, aqua
aerobics, stretch-and-tone training and Nautilus
and weightlifting. It will be free to students and

and an aerobics instructor, is in charge of the new
program. She said she is excited by the preliminary
responses she has received from students.
A pilot program featuring aerobics and aqua
aerobics only, which began Nov. 14 and is running
through Wednesday, has generated many inquiries
and a lot of interest, she said. She said the sessions,
which meet twice a week, have drawn 35 participants
or between 50 percent and 60 percent of
those who received invitations.
