Pate said he created and maintains
SEDS to share and spread his
interest among USC students.
"We're going to promote in
terest and educate the students at
USC," Pate said. "I want to provide
a forum for discussion about
space and its development."
The group had an organizational
meeting Nov. 30, and Pate said interest
levels are high.
"We had about 25 people show
up for the meeting," he said, "and
six people called me and said they
were interested but just couldn't
make the meeting. That's over 30
people, and I expect interest to in:rease
next semester."
Although the organization is still
n the planning stages, Pate has
iefinite ideas about its goals.
"We're trying to get involved in
ind educated about the internaional
space program," Pate said.
'Maybe we can find out what is gong
on in the Soviet space
urogram."
The organization is also looking
nto touring some aeronautical
facilities and going to see a space
shuttle launch, he said.
The group's next meeting will be
i few weeks after the beginning of
he spring semester, he said.
"I want to give interested
students time to establish their
schedules so we can set a regular
meeting time," he said.
It's important for students to
ealize that SEDS is not just for

"This organization is for
