It's not just a case of "boys will be boys."
Three USC football players were arrested Sunday nigl
Police reports said the three were charged with harassing
young man and woman, spitting on them, pushing the girl to t
ground and threatening to rape her, according to Columb
Police records.
One of the players is on the scout team, but the other tv
played in Saturday's humiliating loss to Georgia Tech
Atlanta.
The players appeared to be drunk, and they used fc
language to the police officers and even caused a ruckus in t
jail cell, where they were held until released.
They are charged with disorderly conduct and pub
drunkeness.
And what does our fine, upstanding athletic department <
about that? They are suspended ? for one game.
That's an obscenity.
We're not talking about players getting drunk and having t<
much fun after a bad game.
We're talking about violence against another person. We'
talking about a threatened rape.
And they're suspended for one game?
That just won't do. These allegations are so serious that o
game is not enough. It's just another black eye for our footb;
program that we don't need.
As long as these three are on our football team, they a
representing the students of USC. But this is not the kind
representation we need or want. It's humiliating and embarras

We don't need this.
The athletic department should reconsider its decision ai
suspend the three until they are through with whatever kind
trial they get. Then, if they are found innocent, there will be i
black mark against the university and the students.
Keep them on suspension.
But we don't need as our representatives these three who a
basically charged with being thugs. They aren't the role mod<
we need. They aren't representative of the students.

As much as I am opposed to
editorials, I feel that I must speak my an
piece. There is a lot of tension on arr

closet cases. When does it end?
It seems that the world and its
societies are based on labels. Good or
bad, intentional or unintentional,
labels are just words; yet they can
hurt just the same. "Nigger, commie,
a geek, cripple, faggot," and the list |j
goes on. Such words are cruel and
P unjustifiable; however, the victims fl
can be just as guilty and insensitive as "
the people who talk about them.

My apologies for such an organiza- tru

the human/individual element of a wo
