It's popular at regional fairs. It's a
hot item at art shows. Now, it's a daily
fixture in the Carolina Mall.
Campus Candids, a new store that
opened in the mall in Russell House
this past month, offers a wide variety
of "picture merchandise," said store
manager Linda Morris.
Before taking the space in the mall,
Morris said she and store owner Jerry
Skrivan offered photo novelties at a
portable booth that they set up at
local fairs and art shows.
Now that they arc in a permanent
location, they can receive more
business and offer more items than
they did at the booth, she said.
"So far, our biggest sellers are buttons
and T-shirts that people have
been putting their pictures onto,"
Morris said.
But some lesser-known merchandise
Campus Candids sells are
puzzles, aprons, tote bags and dolls,
all of which pictures can be transferred
onto, she said.
But the pictures don't have to be

can take pictures and then transmit
them onto anything."
Campus Candids can take old
photographs from yearbooks or
photo albums, re-shoot them, then
place them on other items. Skrivan
said many people use them for high
school reunions to show others how
they looked when they graduated ?
and to have a permanent memento
for themselves.

One man liked his classic old car so
much, he brought in a picturc of it to
be transferred onto a T-shirt to wear,
Skrivan said.
Business for Campus Candids has
been slow since it opened, but Morris
said she and Skrivan expect things to
pick up by increasing advertising ?
and waiting for the customer crunch
during traditional commemorative
days.
"We hope to be doing some special
thines with Valentine's Dav coming
up and then with Easter and
Mother's Day around the corner,"
Skrivan said.
Campus Candids is loeated next to
Gamecock Travel in the mall. It is
open from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday,
Wednesday and Friday, and from 11
a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday and
Thursday.
