i Car sign missing, USC police report
The University Police Department reports that a metallic car plate from
the Alpha Phi Omega escort service vehicle is missing. The sign was lost
two weeks ago, when it fell off the car near Maxcy residence hall.
The sign is an official university emblem about 9 inches tall and 24.inchpc

The USC police request the sign be returned to any university office if
found.
The police also say that any student using the service be sure that the
university seal is on the car before accepting a ride.
Group wants Bakker to return to PTL
A group of PTL contributors is soliciting pledges in an attempt to
demonstrate the fund-raising power of the man who built the evangelical
empire and then lost it ? Jim Bakker.
The Bring Bakker Back Club is calling and sending out pledge cards to
some of the 500,000 regular contributors to the ministry, asking them how
much they would contribute if Bakker returned.
"We are taking pledges left and right, thousands of dollars this morning,"
President Vicki Meadows said from the BBB club office in a Fort
Mill motel room Monday. "We want to be able to put down pledge cards
on the judge's desk in court."
She said Bakker "is the only man who can raise the money we need. In
30 or 60 days, we can pay PTL totally out of debt."
Two plead guilty in manslaughter case
A man and his sister have pleaded guilty in the death of the woman's
husband, who was shot nine times in the back of the head.
Steven Jerome Robbins, 31, pleaded guilty Monday to voluntary
manslaughter and grand larceny in the April 1986 death of James Thomas
Hendon. Circuit Judge Frank Eppes sentenced him to 30 years in jail for
manslaughter and 10 years for grand larceny. .
His sister, Karen Hendon, pleaded guilty to accessory after the fact of I
voluntary manslaughter. Ms. Hendon, formerly of Greer, was arrested in
Florida in April. t
She was sentenced to 10 years suspended to one year and the restitution j
of $500 to the public defender's fund.
Robbins said he acted in self-defense after he and Hendon, both armed, <
began fighting while drunk. Robbins, who is serving time in Tennessee on
an uiiicicucu iuauci, was originany cnargea in October with murder and
grand larceny in the Hendon death.
Soviets, U.S. make progress on treaty '
American and Soviet negotiators have removed a key obstacle to an I
arms treaty by agreeing to a timetable for elimination of mediurn-range I
nuclear missiles, according to a Soviet deputy foreign minister.
Vladimir Petrovsky on Monday told the United Nation's General
Assembly's First Committee, which discusses disarmament issues, "Agree- 1
ment has been reached on the article on phasing the elimination of r
missiles." r
United States State Department spokesman Dennis Harter, in a s
telephone interview Monday from Washington, said he had no informa- s
tion on Petrovsky's announcement. Officials at the American U.N. mis
sion also said they did not know about the agreement reported by the
Soviet diplomat. 1
On Friday, the Soviets demanded that the 72 West German Pershing 1 A
missiles, equipped with U.S. nuclear warheads, be included in a
U.S.-Soviet treaty on eliminating intermediate-range nuclear missiles. s
Washington has refused to negotiate the status of the missiles. West Ger- p
