A note to all the James Bond
fans who cringed in 1985, when
Roger Moore's geriatric version
of the British secret agent cooked
and ate quiche in A View to a
Kill: RELAX.
Here's why: the new incarnation
of Bond, played by Timothy
Dalton, looks promising.

While it shares some flaws with
its predecessors ? a leading lady

improvement.
After the usual stunt-packed

their plans by trying to shoot the
Russian ? or so it seems.
In this sequence, the new Bond
is most clearly characterized.
Sean Connery's Bond would have
shot Kara without hesitation.
Roger Moore's Bond would have
seduced Kara, then got shot
himself. Dalton's Bond aims at
Kara's head, but shoots her gun
instead. Isn't that special?
After escaping, Koskov blabs
to the allies about a Soviet plan to
murder British agents, then appears
to be violently stolen back
by the KGB. But Bond suspects
there's more than meets the eye,
and he's right.

Bond knows their plans and can

Unfortunately, the film
doesn't run as smoothly as that
synopsis. The confused plot runs
from country to country, involving
Afghan rebels, Austrian
police and American intelligence
agents along the way. Running
two hours and 20 minutes, Bond
films arc still too long lor their
own good.
Another bad element is
D'Abo. She's pretty, but she just
can't act. Leading ladies in the
Bond films have been a weak spot
for years, and D'Abo is no exception.
She is a huge improvement

Dignity plans to confront the
pope with demonstrators from
Atlanta when he leaves St.

demonstrate at the stadium.
Gene Chapman, a student at

Greenville, said the pope is too

Chapman has unsuccessfully

The protesters will be unable to
