Duke, ranked ninth in the

Kerr, however, has not scored ,
in the last five games.
Blue Devil Carl Williamson
has picked up the pace in the \
last few games, getting eight !

"It's another bie game in the
(South) region," Gamecock
head coach Mark Berson said.
"It's gonna be a challenge to
play our best on Sunday. We
need to be prepared to play."
The overall series record is
3-3-1, but USC has won the last
two meetings, including a 3-0
win in the first round of the
NCAA tournament in 1985.
"Revenge is on Duke's
mind," Berson said.
Sophomore Gamecock
goalkeeper Charlie Arndt takes
three shutouts and a 0.93 goalsagainst
average into the game
against a "posession soccer

"They knock the ball around
and string a lot of passes

Gamecock assistant coach
Trevor Adair said he believes
"there's a lot of pride on the

"We have good momentum
right now (after the Clemson
game), but we can't afford to
have a letdown. We have to

USC has a big home-field ad

only two games since 1984 and
undefeated this season.
"I would like to thank the
student community and all of
USC for their overwhelming

"The support means lot to
the players. We need to pack it
in against Duke because the
fans are like a 12th player, and
whenever you have 12 players
to the other teams 11, you have
a big advantage."

The Lady Gamecock volleyball
team traveled to Clemson and
came away with a win, improving
its rccord to 15-6 overall.
USC defeated the Lady Tigers
Tuesday night, 13-15, 15-11,
15-6, 16-14.
"It was the hardest fought
match I've been associated with
since I've been here," said USC
head coach Bonnie Kenny. "We
fought tooth and nail."
The two teams met earlier in
the year with Carolina coming
away with a three straight game
win. Kenny said, however, that
the Clemson team they met Tuesday
was a much better one than
that of the first meeting.
Kenny said her team played
better than it had in the last few
matches and that was
encouraging.
She said the win over Clemson
should be helpful to the Lady
Gamecocks when the team

"This will be a tough weekend
for us, and we're going to have to
be mentally ready," said Kenny,
who said she believes her team
must not only maintain the intensity
it gained in Clemson but to
also find ways to improve.
