Student wins hypothetical case
honoring former chief justice
Peyre L umpkin of Columbia, a third year law
student at the USC, recently won the iNinm Annual
Woodrow Lewis Moot Court competition. H
The competition, which honors former Chief
Justice Lewis, is sponsored jointly by the USC Law
School Moot Court Bar and the S.C. Supreme
Court. The contest involves two finalists arguing a
hypothetical case before at least three members of
the court.
This year's case involved a petition for readmission
to the S.C. Bar from a former member who
had been suspended indefinitely.
Lumpkin and his partner, Betsy Strange of Columbia,
made the highest combined cumulative score
for their written briefs and for two preliminary
rounds of oral arguments.
The law student was awarded a copy of the S.C.
Code of Laws, donated by Lawyer's Cooperative
Publishing Company. ?
