From Staff Reports
USC's Intramural/Recreational Sports
Office closed out its spring competition with
softball finals Tuesday night.
The Wallbangers, behind the pitching of
Bill Goa, beat Sigma Alpha Lpsilon 8-2 for
the men's A division championship. In the
men's B division, the Boilermakers defeated
the Puck-ups, 9-7. The game was a tightly
fought contest until the top of the fifth inning,
when the Boilermakers scored five runs
to give the team a two-run lead.
The Bandanas, a team composed primarily
of Bates House residents, won the men's C
division title. The team scored five runs in
the bottom of the fifth inning to come from
behind and beat the Gophers, 9-8.
After the game, the winning team
presented the game ball to Danny Taylor, the
only senior on the squad, and "retired" his
jersey.
In the women's final, it took 10 innings for
Kappa Delta to win the championship with a
13-12 victory over Pi Epsilon Mu. Pi Epsilon

"I KNOW I'm as good a catcher as any
other guy I've seen come out of the back field
and catch the ball," he said about his
abilities as a receiver.
Rogers said people expeel a lot out of a
Heisman Trophy winner, but he gives credit
to the 1980 Gamecock team. For him, it's a
team award, not one for himself alone.

Chief's Crown, owned by the Star Crown
Stable, has earnings of $1.2 million, a
healthy portion of that coming from the
Breeders' Cup Juvenile last November. His
nine triumphs in 12 career starts also include
the 1.1-mile Flamingo, when he beat Proud
Truth by a length.
