Thompson Young sat down and cried
27 years ago when tier high school class
ring slipped off her finger and into the
Atlantic Ocean at North Myrtle Beach.
She had worked for $3 a day at
Woolworth's to buy the $17.50 Paw

"It lelt so important to me," she
said. "I wore it on my left hand until 1
got married. Then I wore it on my
right."
Young, a 53-year-old Paw Creek
resident, had the rin^i back on her

Debbie Witek of Ohio plucked it from
the surf at the South Carolina resort
and tracked the owner down. Young
got the ring in the mail Thursday.

"Maybe she was on a boat and got
eaten by a shark. Maybe she was going
steady with someone, and he threw it
in the water. Mavbe he izave it the old
heave-ho."
Young lost the ring in shallow water
while she and her family were on

"I went back the next morning. I
