USC football fans couldn't lose during last
night's annual intrasquad spring game at
Williams-Bricc Stadium.
USC White, led by last season's quarterback
standout Mike Mold, downed USC
Uarnct, 35-14, before a crowd of 14,000.
Mold, the only quarterback used by the
^ white squad, completed six of ten attempts
for 132 yards. He threw three touchdowns on
the night, connecting twice with I.add Fletcher
and once with Sterling Sharpc.
After the spring season finale, head coach
Joe Morrison said he was pleased with the
way the squads looked.
"I I HOIK.Il l tli ere was a loi of good individual
play out there," Morrison said.
"Overall, the hustle, the intensity and enthusiasm
were the key ingredients.
_ "That's what we were looking for."
? But Morrison added that the team still
needs improvement before next season's
opener against The Citadel, Aug. 31."I
realize we got a long way to go before we're
ready to line up and play next fall," he said.
"If they work hard in the weight room between
now and next August, and get bigger
and better ? we'll be alright."
At one point during the game, Hold was
assisted off the field with an apparent injury.
The time Hold spent on the bench didn't last
long bccausc he returned to action on the
White's next possession.
^ IN TIIK LOCKER ROOM. Hold said with
a laugh that he didn't want to comment on
the "injury," saying it was an inside joke
designed by coach Tank Black.
"Planned? I heard that it was. That's
about all 1 know," lie said \sith a smile.
